Planning a house move in 2023 – refresh and revitalise your home ready for sale!

As one property website proclaims – there is never the perfect time to move – just the right time (for you), as even against the current economic backdrop people’s lives don’t stop.  While decisions can be put on hold for a few weeks or a couple of months, there usually comes a point where you can’t realistically  tread water for any longer and you have to bite the bullet. .

Moving house is one of the biggest decisions we make,  and with the current market forecasts, you could be forgiven for thinking that selling your home in 2023 is a lost cause before you start.  The truth is it won’t be as easy as it would have been a year ago, but that doesn’t mean it’s impossible.

When it comes to selling, as always,  do your homework; set a realistic price in the current market; talk to local agents and take advice.  It’s all about getting people through the door to look.

Once they are there, it’s your job to sell your house as a home, a well-loved and happy place that allows someone to visualise a life within its four walls.

Preparing your home to be loved by someone else.

It is often suggested that the smell of fresh bread and coffee helps people imagine their life in your home, but which rooms are key?  As buyers’ belts tighten, there are fewer people who will want to change the kitchen or bathroom when they move – so they are more likely to be looking for clean, well-maintained rooms that are useable and liveable, even if it’s not to their taste of décor!

Kitchens and bathrooms maybe the rooms that can swing a dea, andthey’re  also the rooms that need to be used every day by you and your family until you move. Once they have been decluttered and deep-cleaned ready for viewings, how can you keep them looking fresh, while being easy to keep clean at a moment’s notice?

Now is the time to work smarter, not harder, when it comes to keeping everyday kitchen and bathroom surfaces ready for potential buyers to view.  The main areas to keep on top of are:-

  • Ceramic and stainless steel cookers hobs and ovens
  • Stainless steel cooker hoods and sinks
  • Belfast and matt ceramic sinks
  • Glazed tiles and splash backs
  • Granite, quartz and formica worktops
  • Shower screens and trays
  • Bathroom furniture

These surfaces can be kept fresh, easy-clean and scratch free through the use of easily applied nano coatings – simply put, these spray and wipe coatings made from SiO2 (silica) permanently bond to the cooker, sink or shower screen surface, forming a stain resistant, easy-clean coating.

Within the nano-coatings family, there are coatings that have  either or both hydrophobic and oleophobic capabilities – that do not peel or flake,  and are unaffected by temperature, including heat resistance  up to +800°C. Due to the molecular bond that the coating makes with the surface, they are not removed during everyday cleaning, they just make it easier!

Cookers, cooker hoods and hobs

Dura nano-ceramic coating is ideal for these areas as it’s  heat and scratch resistant and allows burnt-on food to be removed quickly and easily from pan supports and hobs.  It leaves stainless steel bright, shiny and fingerprint-free as if it’s just been installed.

Granite, quartz and formica worktops

For an easy-clean function, Glassguard VP12 can be used. If heat resistance is needed on formica, then Dura nano-ceramic will help prevent hot pots and pans from leaving heat marks – within reason!!

Sinks

Glassguard VP12 can be used on stainless steel, ceramic and glazed Belfast sinks repelling limescale and water marks that are left by hard water, soap scum and toothpaste. Within the kitchen, it also makes food residues, such as Bolognese sauce, easy to wash off.

Matt ceramic sinks can easily stain and lose their looks quickly; treating them with Dura nano-ceramic will protect them from staining and scratches.

Glazed bathroom and kitchen tile splashbacks

Again, reach for the Glassguard VP12, it’s crystal clear, won’t change the look or discolour your tiles, and  will mean that food splashes, limescale and water marks can be quickly removed with a wipe.

Shower screens and trays

Bathrooms see some of the heaviest daily footfall in a house as everyone showers and cleans their teeth at both ends of the day. Keeping your bath and shower looking clean and fresh is a big enough daily challenge, without the stress of impending visit.

Showerguard allows you to restore your glass shower screen’s hydrophobic and oleophobic properties, repelling water droplets and limescale residues – whilst preventing them from staining the shower glass ;and (if everyone helps) it makes  it super easy to clean after each use with a quick squeegee wipe.

Once you have decided to move, the last thing that you want to do is spend large amounts on your current home, but there is an argument for ensuring it is presented well in order to maximise your chances of selling.  Treating your kitchen and bathroom surfaces to a permanently bonding protection can cost as little as £25.00, leaving them looking like new and enabling you to keep them that way for as long as necessary with just a quick wipe with a wet cloth.
