Once the shortest day has passed and the joys of Christmas and family have come and gone, we are all left counting the additional pounds we have put on over the less active winter months. It is at this point we release just how much we do when we are working and pottering in the garden. It isn’t just our physical health that benefits from being outside, but also our all-round mental well-being that is lifted .
Spring brings with it the prospect of longer days, lunching, BBQing and entertaining friends outside, as well as lazy evenings just sitting and enjoying the view. With five bank holidays coming up in April and May, now is the time to start the ‘great garden spring clean’.
Before you can get on with a summer of entertaining that you’ve spent the winter contemplating , the first jobs are:-
- Clean and treat patios
- Treat outdoor furniture
- Clean soft furnishings
- Clean and check the BBQ
Patio Cleaning
It is important to remove green algae from pathways as it can make them very slippery during rain showers; whilst moss, dust and dirt, if left, can heavily stain stone and concrete slabs. First step is getting your patios and pathways clean, this can be done with elbow grease – a stiff brush and hose pipe – or the easy option is a pressure washer or steam cleaner, which can be hired.
After you’ve gone to the effort of cleaning your patio, it’s worth going the extra mile and using an easy-clean patio sealer to protect your slabs being stained by oil, grease and red wine spills – they also ensure that algae and everyday grime becomes easier to remove.
Outdoor furniture and decking
Outdoor furniture and decking , whilst designed to be outdoors, generally need to cleaned before use to remove last years dirt and to get rid of any moulds or fungi that have taken root overwinter. Once cleaned there are clear benefits to treating them with an easy-clean protective coating to help them withstand the extremes of winter snow and frost aswell as the summer heat. Coatings such as xxx also protect from staining and damage caused through drink and food spills.
Seating and soft furnishing
After digging your padded seating and cushions out of the back of the garage, it’s time to machine wash them (if possible), or if not, then a warm day, a hose pipe , some fabric detergent and a bit of hand scrubbing should do the job!
Once they are clean, they too can be treated with a protective waterproof coating that will ensure they repel staining and retain their appearance throughout the entertaining season.
BBQ ready!
The final detail to ensure you’re ready to entertain is the BBQ – did you remember to clean it after you used it last….?
If you didn’t – brace yourself, it won’t be pleasant – but once done, there is a way that you can make each clean much easier. By using Dura nano ceramic to coat the cooking grids and BBQ shell, you will find that cooked on oils, fats and meat residue come away much easier -in fact with little to no effort.
Your garden entertaining space has now had a full spring clean and is ready for whatever your guests want to throw at it over the coming months, with the added bonus of future easy-clean performance, to keep it looking good!
